The Word Illustrated #75 -- A servant's heart

A servant’s heart

For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me -- Matthew 25:35-36

Jesus never hesitated to serve His disciples, or thought Himself more highly than others who served along side Him. He beautifully illustrated this, when He washed the disciples feet -- John 13:5. This is a tender act of servitude toward others. A true servant does not seek recognition or the praise of others. They simply want to help (serve), and would rather work ‘behind the scenes’.

They are most satisfied, when others are able to enjoy the fruit of their labor. They prefer to go unnoticed, and are often perplexed, when the act of helping is praised. Although theirs is a ministry of ‘Helps’; it is more a part of who they are, rather than a ministry position. These individuals often speak to and spend time with those others choose to ignore.

When they go grocery shopping, they buy enough to share with others. If they find a deal, their thoughts go to someone else who could benefit from their find. Generally, they do not worry about what others think of them. They only want to do what is right, and pleasing to God. In the flesh, they question why they are the way they are, sulk and will hesitate to serve. This happens when the deceiver slips through the crack in their armour. he tricks them into focusing on themselves and their situation, rather than helping others. he also tricks them into thinking that they should have more than they do.

Their power verse is Galatians 6:9 -- And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not. Once they confess their sin, and repent to the Lord, they can move forward again unhindered. The servants know their calling, and will do what is right, even if it puts them in a less favorable light with others. We are told to be doers and not hearers only, who deceive themselves James 1:22. The word of God is very clear.

The life of a servant is a witness to others. They are so unusual, that they automatically draw attention to themselves, without meaning to. They are watched closely by others. The way you live, how you give, the way you speak to and treat others, is always being scrutinized. When faced with trials and tribulations, others want to know how you handle things, even those in the body of Christ. They want to know if we are willing to only love and serve the Lord when things are going well.

They really want to know if we believe what we say and do, or if it is just for show. The servant knows how to walk by faith, and not by sight, because he/she knows that what we see are only temporal. More than that, they know that if they are to walk in faith, then they cannot straddle the fence. The opposite of faith is doubt and unbelief. They know that they MUST still move forward with singleness of heart in their service to God, because in the grand scheme of things, all things work together for the good of them that love God, those who are the called according to His purpose.

Getting a handle on sin

For if you keep on following it (sin) you are lost and will perish, but if through the power of the Holy Spirit you crush it and it's evil deeds, you shall live -- Romans 8:13 TLB

Jesus, the one who knew no sin took our place on the cross so that we could have abundant life here and eternal life in heaven with the Father. We have all fallen short of the glory of God and sinned, yes, but we do not have to stay in it. satan loves nothing to find Christians he can deceive into falling.

If we can't forgive ourselves, how could our Heavenly Father ever forgive us -- this is the mind satan wants us to have. Do not attempt to reason with him you will lose every time. He is the master deceiver and wants us depressed, blind, confused, alone and in darkness. But, because of what Jesus did on the cross, we can pray in Jesus' name to our Heavenly Father for forgiveness and restoration.

It is important to be in a bible believing, bible teaching church that lifts up the name of Jesus. Also, ask someone who has a strong prayer life to pray with you. Jesus said that wherever two or more are gathered in His name, there He would be in the midst. A trustworthy accountability partner is a must-have in this walk of faith. You can fast together too. We all need someone with whom we can be honest and communicate openly.

If you keep on living you will be tempted, which in itself is no sin. The sin comes when we take on the temptation. Unsure? Ask yourself if the action glorifies the Lord or not. If you find yourself facing a situation, take a moment and ask the Holy Spirit to guide you. You will see that the Lord has already provided a way out. If you are in fact trapped in sin, stop, ask forgiveness, receive it and move on in faith.

The deceiver entered the world to kill, steal and destroy. That includes all of our dreams, hopes, goals, family-- our very lives! Let's choke the snake of sin and live a victorious life in Christ today!

God bless,
Pamyla

The Word Illustrated #23--I Corinthians 7:2

I Corinthians 7:2--Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.

Fornication—The Greek pronunciation is Porn ea, which interpreted means, pornography

We are to live by God's standards, struggle or not. It is a commandment from God, not a suggestion or comment.

Jesus is able to keep us in all things, if we allow Him to. No one wants a gift that has been opened and recently used! What if the bow were shredded, the wrapping torn, wrinkled and poorly taped. By now, you may not want to accept the gift, let alone open it.

This is what happens when sex is used inappropriately. You both know that your sweetie will sleep with someone they aren't married to. Over time, satan uses this open door, to slowly eat away all that was built up, before you walk down the aisle.

Yes, things can turn around, but why go through all of that! We can use our time more wisely by getting to know, love and grow, more with the one we so earnestly prayed for!

For those of us who are struggling in this area, we can repent, and ask forgiveness. Remember, He blots out our transgressions for His own sake and will not remember our sins!

Next, we need to find scriptures that relate to what we are going through, write them down, meditate on them (keep on our mind) and speak them aloud, so that they become part of us.

Prayer joined with fasting introduces divine intervention! Not only will our spirits be refreshed, but our relationship with the Lord will be strengthened. We can also ask Him to send us an accountability partner who we can be honest and frank with.

After all, no one wants to go on their honeymoon, to catch up on television-- because the gift is nothing new to look at.

"Give the devil an inch..."

Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;--II Corinthians 10:5

We have to be careful about the things we say, about others, and more importantly about ourselves and our lives. When we open our mouths, are we glorifying the Lord or the devil? What we read, watch, and listen to are what goes into our hearts, influencing our thoughts, which come out as a reflection of not only who we are, but also who we believe to be true.

We can speak in faith no matter the circumstance or situation we are facing ie: "I walk by faith, not by sight", "I am never alone, because God promised to never leave nor forsake me", "In faith, I can call those things which are not, as though they are", " I am more than a conqueror through Jesus Christ".

If our language goes against what the word of God says about us, we are not living in faith and are not glorifying Him. Until we learn to do so, we will keep walking around in circles, going through the same things over and over again, year after year.

Yes, we can learn to walk in faith, using God's word to change our lives, no matter what our backgrounds look like. Yes, we can walk in faith, using God's word so that we are not fazed, shaken, nor moved by the things that happen around us.

Let's get into a bible believing, bible teaching, church where the name of Jesus is magnified, so that we too can learn to walk right, talk right, and in faith, live abundantly -- right here, right now, on this earth, even in this time of famine.

God bless,
Pamyla
